HOWARD WESTCOTT Coach WRESTLING SQUAD The Portland State wrestling squad, coached by Howard Westcott, enjoyed another fine season. Facing a rugged schedule, the grapplers posted a lO-win and 3-loss record for the season. Defeating such schools as Washington, Oregon, and Fort Lewis army base, and showing well against the Multnomah Athletic Club, Portland State produced two coast champions, Autrey Ehler and Gary Hoagland, while taking third place in the coast tourna ment. Wrestling, a minor sport at most schools has had such an outstanding record at this school that it may bE' classed as our leading sport. A coast champion in a sport is someone to be admired; a man selected as the best wrestler on the coast is even more outstanding; but, when an individual is selected for both awards and, in addition, is chosen the best in the West, then he has reached the top . Autrey Ehler is such an individual. He won the coast championship in his weight and was at the same time selected the best at the meet. The fol lowing week, wrestling at the NCAA regionals, he was selected the best also. In the nationals, he reached the semi-finals before bowing by one point. There is a good chance that he may be competing 10 the Olym pics this summer at Rome. 202
