African Students Visit At Schools Students in local schools . have been visited during the past week by African stu– dents who are attending the different colleges in Port– land. They have delighted youngsters with their nation– al dress and information about their countries. Mrs. Verna Shepherd of the Al– bina Neighborhood Service Center has been making the arrangements for the visits. Any teacher who would like to have an African student visit her class can call Mrs. Shepherd at the Center. (Paid Advertisement) Computer Use Cuts Errors On Income Tax This year we will use a computer in the preparation of all individual income tax returns prepared in our of– fice. The computer will calculate, print and collate individual income tax re– turns. It is a highly spe– cialized system designed to relieve us of tedious rou– tine, and to reduce the work load of our clerical staff. However, we maintain com– plete control over dis– cretionary and decision mak– ing functions. We must make de c i s ion s involving tax theory. The computer is pro– grammed to make over 300 diagnostic tests. Any dis– crepancies or omissions of data noted as a result 0f these tests will be printed out in the Diagnostic Report, the results, free of com– putational error, are printed on IRS approved tax forms with supporting schedules attached. The Diagnostic Report clearly points out anything you may have missed when submitting your information. Was your marital status or occupation omitted? What about expense allowance in– formation: Was it included? Thousands of instructions are permanently retained by the computer's amazing electronic memory to catch and record anything signifi– cant that makes your return incomplete. l,1 addition, with this re– port, we can red-flag ''po– tential problem areas" for you. For example, if a re– turn shows short term gain or loss on capital assets held over 6 months, this will be called to your attention. If you don't mind paying a fair price for a job well done, contact us during our office hours, 9 to 5 Monday through Friday, evening and week– ends by appointment. Allen Z.
