120 ACTIVITY 10: GETTING INVOLVED IN PSU: ACTIVITIES OBJECTIVE: EXPLORE SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AT PSU. DEVELOP A PURPOSE FOR PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES IN THE UNIVERSITY. TASK: RESEARCH, CHOOSE, AND ATTEND A FUNCTION AT PSU. Being a university student is not only about academic study. For international students in particular, learning about American culture and values and how to adapt and adjust to living in this new community is an important part of the university experience. Additionally, the social ties and relationships that students develop may be lifelong and may influence future study, career and life decisions. For this activity, you can participate in a workshop, lecture or function organized by your major department or join an event sponsored by a social or academic organization within your major. STEP 1: RESEARCH MEETING OR FUNCTION OPTIONS Form small groups. Each group member will find 2 or 3 campus events that you might like to attend. You do not need to attend any functions with your group at this time; this task is a research activity only. Share what you have found with your group members. You may want to go to your major department and look at the bulletin board in the department’s main office. What is happening in the next two weeks?
