528 • Chapter 6: El cambio y el futuro Lengua 6.5: Prepositions and the pronouns that follow them In Lengua 6.1, we reviewed one group of small words that often cause confusion: pronouns . In this sec- tion, we will explore another such group: prepositions . And within that exploration, we will find another connection: pronouns used after prepositions need to be in the correct form. Prepositions are often short words and indicate a relationship of some kind. This can be a physical relationship, a causal relationship, and so on. Here are several of the most common prepositions and prepositional phrases: de from, of en in, on, at a to, at con with por for, through, by, around para for, in order to, by sobre about, above, over entre between, among sin without desde since, from contra against a través de through hacia toward ante before (facing) dentro within a partir de starting from mediante by means of bajo under, below junto together adentro de within, inside of encima de on top of alrededor de around, surrounding detrás de behind afuera de outside of Por and para deserve their own Lengua section, and can be reviewed in Lengua 5.8.
