In this Lengua section, we focus on the adverbs we can form out of an adjective. The equivalents in English are words ending in -ly , such as luckily . Luckily for us, these work very similarly in Spanish. The ending in Spanish is -mente . We have already seen several examples, such as típicamente and normalmente . In order to form this kind of adverb, we start with the adjective. Next, change the adjective into the feminine form if it has one. Finally, add -mente . If there was an accent mark on the original adjective, it will also be there in the adverbial form. Típico → Típica → Típicamente Normal → Normalmente Here are several adjectives with common adverbial forms: Clear: claro Clearly: claramente Exact: exacto Exactly: exactamente Quick: rápido Quickly: rápidamente Slow: lento Slowly: lentamente Immediate: inmediato Immediately: inmediatamente Frequent: frecuente Frequently: frecuentemente Fortunate: afortunado Fortunately: afortunadamente Note that adverbs do not match the gender and number of nouns. Lentamente , for example, will not undergo any adjustments for number and gender. The adjectives bueno and malo have irregular adverbs: bien and mal , respectively. Another interesting note: when we use two -mente adverbs together, we only need to add -mente to the second one. For example, “libre y creativamente” (freely and creatively). 15. Elegir Elige la palabra correcta para completar las siguientes frases. ¡Ten cuidado! Algunos tienen errores de ortografía o no son adverbios reales. 1. El golpe de estado terminó ______________ como empezó: con un dictador poderoso y un país decepcionado. exactamente rápidomente 2. No hiciste eso ______________. Estás equivocado con el proceso para los números seis a quince. buenamente correctamente
