Job sharing is a concept that seems to be taking hold even in very straight, traditional situations like banks and universities. They can cover for each other when they're sick or can work together for busy days like hearing tests. In some jobs that are more flexible time-wise, two people simply divide up the work. As each tends to work more than the required hours, employers often get more for their money-even if they are paying full benefits to each. Much of the credit for the new trend can be given to the women's movement-more qualified women who need flexible hours geared to child care problems. Oftentimes jobs are shared by a couple, which means hours at home can be divided equally. Whatever the reasons, it seems to be a healthy move towards increasing a person's work options.
