61 | From MSA to CA: A Beginner’s guide for transitioning into Colloquial Arabic In the following dialogue, you will find verbs like إتْفَرّجت and ِ ّ إتْكَل مْت . These are form 5 in MSA ،َِِ ت َِ فَرّج َِ تَكَلّم . In CA, إ is added at the beginning of the verb (form 6 also 2 ). In addition, the vowel on the second root letter is kasra. Examples: Form 5 MSA CA الدرس ِ عن ِ أحمد َِ تَكَلّم .ِ ِ أحمد إ َِ تْك ِ ّ ل الدرس ِ عن ِْ م . العربية ِ الطالبة ِْ تَعَلّمَت . الطالب ة ِ إ َِ تْع ِ ّ ل عَرَبي ِْ مت . As you can see, the ا is added in the verb form 5 in CA and kasra in the middle root letter. The root letters of تعلّم are م ِ. ل ِ. ع and for تكلّم are م ِ. ل ِ. ك .
