Community Resilience to Climate Change: Theory, Research and Practice

197 STUDENT EXERCISES [To be completed after assigned reading] (1) Reflect on the relationship between RESILIENCE and JUSTICE. Come to class prepared to discuss your perspectives based on the week’s readings. (5-10 sentences) FOR INSTRUCTORS: CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES (1) Divide the class into two groups: one representing the global north and one representing the global south. Have each group discuss the unique challenges around resilience planning, considering the following: - Access to information and resources - Historical legacies (colonialism, systemic racism, inequitable distribution of services) - Institutional structures and cultural norms Students are encouraged to base their conversations on themes from previous course readings, or to search for relevant information online during the discussion phase. Remind participants to avoid broad, unfounded assumptions. Now that students have established some context, ask them to consider the following question: What are some major barriers to equitable climate resilience planning in your global region, and how might you overcome those as a practitioner?
