The mural depicts the community garden, showing positive images of fertility and the green earth, Dick said. The inspiration behind the painting occurred when Dick looked out her friend's window and saw the plain wall that created a backdrop for a community garden. "It was just big and bare and 1 thought it would look good with a mural," Dick said. With that inspiration, she talked to the City of Portland. After getting permission, she began the project in October and finished on October 15. As she painted the wall, Dick found that many pedestrians took an interest in the painting and were supportive of outdoor public art in Portland. "The public in general are supportive of having any mural. It wasn't just one wall. People are just dying for art," she said. The mural finished, she will focus on producing commissioned paintings and earning a general studies degree in arts and letters.
