Nirvana, a band from Seattle, was among the proudest purveyors of this unadorned grinding form of rock 'n' roll. At the 10th Annual MTV Music Awards, Nirvana's "In Bloom" won the trophy for best alternative video. AS band members Chris Novoselic, Dave Grohl looked on, Kurt Cobain, the lead singer, unbuttoned his pants for the cameras. Cobain, 27, was found dead in his Seattle home on Friday, April 8, 1994. He left a one page suicide note before shooting himself in the head. Cobain was married to Courtney Love, lead singer of Hole. They had a two- year-old daughter, Francis Bean. 48
