90 " Filmmaking is a creative thing," says Ralph . " To see something on the screen that you have created gives you a feeling nothing else does." But he wrinkles his brow, worried that he might give someone the wrong impression. " I don 't mean this just to be vain . Film is such a powerful medium. I have been affected by it since I was a kid . If I can use it for the benefit of others, if I can create something that will move others and entertain them, and make them think as well , I will feel that I have done something worthwhile." He says, " A lot of people don 't experience a lot of things around them. They miss so much . They spend so much t ime wasting time. They take a job, go to work, get home at night, spend money on crutches, like drugs. They never feel any– thing beyond themselves. They are not sensitive about a lot of things not because they can 't be, but because they don't take the time to compare their problems with those of others. Maybe they might see something in a film I will work on that will cause them to start thinking and expanding their lives." Ralph takes filmmaking classes through the Center for the Moving Image both from Tom Taylor and Andres Deinum. In addition, he is heavily involved in acting classes on campus. He is also involved in Lake Oswego Community Theater where he recently starred in Th e Importance of Being Earnest. At present the busy filmmaker has to work with industrial and educational filming . He considers this a oractice-run . a prerequisite to the eventual goal of fulltime theatrical filmmaking, but, he smiles, " Film offers so many varieties of work that you never get bored.
