Of all the personalities that have spent time at PSU , the most talked about has to be Freeman Williams. His accomplishments while playing basketball for PSU include: -the NCAA scoring championship for two consecutive years. In 1977 his average score per game was 38.8 while the '78 season produced an average of 35.9 points; -earning second place in the NCAA's history for total points scored. With a total of 3,249 Freeman placed second to the awesome Pete Maravich and his all-time high of 3,667. This total also places Free among only four players in the history of NCAA to top the 3,000 point mark; -holding the second highest all-time single game score. With his incredible performance against Rocky Mountain College, in which he scored 81 points, Freeman acquired the distinction of being only 19 points short of the record holder Frank Selving; -consecutively holding the second, fourth , and seventh single game high in NCAA history; -selection to the 12-man United States team for compe– tition in the World University Games; -selection by the United States Basketball Writers Asso– ciation to its 10-man All-American Team; and -selection as Sports lflustrated magazine's "Player of the Week.
