President and Mrs. Wolfe moved two parties from Smith Memorial Center to the Portland Art Museum. "I have never seen an obscene painting. I don't think they exist," explained Henk Pander, a Dutch artist turned local, and December's White Gallery showman. Many gallery visitors thought otherwise. Complaints about the exhibit prompted an Art Committee meeting just three days after the twenty-five oils, watercolors, and drawings were hung. The committee passed favorably on the show.
