The back- ground knowledge and the brains were there- what the team learned was speed and confi- dence. Question drills, use of the buzzer panel, stalling tactics, appearances in public and be- fore television cameras, and even lessons in audience-stimulating facial expressions were training regimen for the team. Out of this came a superb display of teamwork which impressed viewers everywhere, but none more than Portland Staters who knew team members as intensely individualistic persons.
