twelfth night "Twelfth Night" was the Portland State Players 400th birthday tribute to William Shakespeare . But what set this offering apart, rang bells , and alerted the citizenry was appearance of Angus Bowmer in the cast. Bowmer is founder and director of the Ashland Shakespearean Festival , a national authority on Shakespeare , and , more important, a first-rate performer of Shakespeare. He came in early 1962 as Shylock in " The Merchant of Venice ." This year he came to play and did play superbly the bibbing, brawling , over-age-in-grade ado– lescent, Sir Toby Belch . He stayed 17 days , "played" 17 classes , four TV shows , inr,umerable radio , dinner, and lunch engagements .
