Speaking informally to a student– faculty gathering , the senator from Kentucky said , " The average student is much better equipped to make a choice than the average voter." And added his conviction that the current crop of college students is much more interested in politics than in his own college days . Senator Morton whose name was publicized in early lists of Republican presidential possibilities, was in Portland on a fund-raising swing around the country.
