a dream play The painful , mercilessly truthful world of August Strindberg was revealed in the Theatre Arts production of "A Dream Play." Strindberg 's early stream-of– consciousness drama is seldom done anywhere and has never been commercially produced in the United States. The presentation was a Theatre Arts department gesture of recogn ition to Professor Carl Dahlstrom, emeritus head of PSC's English Department and a foremost authority on Strindberg . The elements of a drama, of a dream, of reality, and of nightmarish illusion are enmeshed and indis– tinguishable in Strindberg's (and the audience's) search for truth . The only form is that of a dream, and is held together only by the consciousness of the dreamer. The production was in the flexible Idea Theatre-where the play occupies most of the space, and the audience is almost surrounded by the action . Carol Morgareidge played the daughter of lndra; John Shields, the lawyer; Ernie Klostermann, the student ; and Kim Stanley, the poet. 47
