154 freeway The grey buildings are burning. Their walls , their roofs, their cupboards and stairs have been torn to ashes, dying by fire to meet with so many remnants of their era. They fell when the freeway ribbons came, spared another, more eventual crowding out. Waiting as long as they could , the old houses around Portland State lived to see a steel child born .
