Growth in academic stature at a college can be measured in grants- funds given for re– search and continued study by foundations, colleges , and the federal government. The first Woodrow Wilson Fel– lowship to be awarded a PSC student was won by 23-year old Molly Houghton (bottom left), a major in French and German . Miss Houghton was one of 1,057 college seniors in the U. S. and Canada to win the award. She plans to attend Occidental College in Los An– geles . Students in Middle East Stud– ies receiving overseas grants for Shimlan , Lebanon , were Donald Cioeta, Alan Ely, Lu– anne Kneeland and Gordon Sund . Joel Virbin will go to Hayim Greenberg Institute in Israel. MESC students winning schol– arships for graduate study were Frederick Hunter, who will go to Harvard Middle East In– stitute ; and Lewis Snider who will study at John Hopkins Uni– versity. Both Hunter and Snider studied in Shimlan , Lebanon , this past year. Receiving MESC scholarships for summer ses– sions were Claire Anderson , Larry Penrose, and Judith Til– ton for University of Utah ; and Frank Nettleton, Linda Willner, Lucy Hubbard, Carol Pierce and Luanne Dawson for UCLA. 153
