144 track Hampered by injury and illness, the track squad got off to a slow start before it gathered momentum.Veteran standouts were: Don McMillan, mile run ; Carlo Sposito, sprints; Don Mc– Cartney, 440 yard dash; Loren Remy, the weights , and Bill Powell , hurdles. Still the Viks were able to claim second place at the Oregon Collegiate Confer– ence Championship Track Meet which Portland State hosted this year. Team scores for the meet were: Southern Oregon 1371j 2 ; Portland State 97 ; Ore– gon Tech 33; Oregon College 281j 2 ; Eastern Oregon 27 . Events won by PSC were the 440 relay-Harold Strong , Bill Powell, Walt Vanhooser, Carlo Sposito -43.4 ; 440 yard dash-Wesly Walhood -50.6; 100 yard dash-Harold Strong ; 220 yard dash-Harold Strong-21.6; high jump-Phil White-6-5 1/4 ; pole vault-Phil White-13-0 .
