The new science building , like urban renewal for a city, offers answers to the division's crowding and miserable equipment– primarily because it has more space . Despite tenement quality facilities, significant research and extens ive teaching is done in the 52-year-old former Lincoln high school building . PSC has grown in stature as a public health research center. A $400,000 federal financed environmental health floor in the long-awaited new building is expected to bring some $500,000 in other research grants. The late Dr. Clyde Johnson of chemistry said research is vital to education of students and faculty alike as well as contributing to community economic well-being .
