98 Student publications are the key to communications at Portland State Col– lege and at the same time provide an outlet for journalistic, literary, and graphic talents . The Vanguard this year increased its size to 12 pages weekly with the aid of increased advertising and a larger news staff. Coverage ex– panded to include comprehensive news of the community and the state wh ich affected Portland State, such as the October 15 tax referendum, the near death of The Portland Reporter, and the higher education bond issue on the May 15 primary ballot. Editor Georgia Wetteland (below) left office at the end of Winter Term. Clarence He in (far right below) took the position. The Review, edited by Jim Wygant (cen– ter below), combined non-fiction and photography with the usual contents of a literary magazine, short stories , es– says , poetry and drawings. The Publications Board, chaired by Ed Grosswiler (left) met occasionally to discuss budgets and various policies wh ich affected all publications.
