Chartered buses transported 300 new students up the winding Columbia River Highway to Camp Menucha, this year's location for the seventh annual New Student Camp . Offered as part of the Freshman Orientation Program , the two-day retreat was planned to give students a friendly, unhurried introduc– tion to college life . Faculty members and student leaders of various campus groups held informal discussions stressing academic, cultural and social aspects of college . Musing over the exciting new v istas of learning , the seemingly many v irtues of college ver– sus high school , the freshmen were abruptly brought face to face with academic reality when John Jenkins de– livered the keynote address-" How to Take Notes." Recreational facil ities at beautiful Camp Menucha were by no means overlooked .Softball , tennis, hik– ing , eating , and just plain loafing filled free time between discussions. It's a long , long, while from fall till December -the next free time for the students .
