240 SWISKI Skiing is one of the many participating and spec tator sports available to PSC students by reason of the college's location in the heart of a metropolitan area and close to Mt. Hood winter resorts. More than 1000 students each year are involved 'in ski activities. Swiski, the Portland State ski club, is one of the most popular and vigorous of campus organizations. Six years ago Swiski started a small campus week end activity on Mt. Hood which it dubbed "the winter ca'l'nival". During the last five years the event begun by the club has grown into Intercol legiate Winter Carnival which attracts students from colleges and universities all over the West. An estimated 20,000 students have enjoyed carnival activities during the five years. Though the 'Vinter Carnival is now sponsored by the student body, Swiski finds many events to keep its membership busy-ski trips, club weekends at the mountains, ski movies and professional in structions, plus several social events in the city. Though it is primarily for ski enthusiasts, Swiski also encourages non-skier members. On campus, members of Swiski plan mountain activities during a weekly business meeting.
