222 GAMMA PHI BETA Gamma Phi Bera is the most recent national sorority to be established at Portland State. The Gamma Phi's colony was begun April 7, 1961. The PSC group is the organization's 72nd chapter. Gamma Phi Beta was founded in 1874 at Syracuse University and was the first women's Greek-letter organization ro use the term "sorority". As with other national organizations, Gamma Phi Beta became interna tional with the establishment of a chapter at the University of Toronto in 1919. The major activities for the young PSC chapter were those connected with rushing and installing the members of the new colony. The Gamma Phi's are planning a full slate of activities for th e coming year. The Gamma Phi Beta badge is a crescent with a monog ram of Greek letters in th e center. The pledge pin is a three-sided shield with a yellow crescent on a field of black. Meg Galinat adds her pink carnation to the Gamma phi Beta crescent as Penny Pick· hard holds the sorority symbol.
