ALPHA OMICRON PI OFFICERS NOLA KNIGHT president KATHY ROBINSON vice·president SHIRLEY NELSON secretory ROBIN POMEROY treasurer DIXIE GRAVES historian NOLA KNIGHT In 1897 national Alpha Omicron Pi was founded at' Barnard College of Columbia University. The sorority, growing steadily since 1898, has established over 60 chapters at carefully selected colleges and universities. The Portland State chapter, Rho Sigma, was installed January 21, 1961. Aft'er their initiation new members were feted at an installation banquet at Waverly Country Club. The following day a reception was held in the College Center. Rho Sigma chapter was formerly Kappa Epsilon Phi a local sorority founded in 1959. Though the petitioning group was small, it's members were among the most active on cam DUS. Kathy Robinson served as president of both Associated Women Students and the I nter-Sorority Council. Juanita Willing was a member of the Student Senate. Orher mem bers served on College Center committees, Homecoming, and Freshman Orientation. The new A 0 Pi's held their annual mum sale in conjunction with Homecoming and their formal Red Rose Ball in the spring. The badge of Alpha Omicron Pi is a monogram of the Greek letters, either plain or jeweled, with a ruby in the spex of the A. A golden sheaf of wheat bearing the letters of the name forms the pledge pin. The new initiates of Rho Sigma Chapter, sorority alumni, notional officers and guests dine at the initio· tion banquet at Waverly Country Club.
