204 Portland State's magnificent track and field team continued to dominate small college competition by winning the Oregon Col legiate Conference and District 2 NAIA championships. If marked the third straight OCC title and second consecutive District 2 diadem for Coach Ralph Davis' Vikings. The Vikings opened the season by thumping cross-town rival Lewis and Clark for the thi,rd straight time, 85 2/3 to 45 1/3. They followed with a four-way victory over Willamette, Pacific, and Oregon Tech and triangular triumph over Clark College and the University of Portland. A victory string that had reached 13 straight tumbled the next week when rugged C:~ntral Washington stopped the Viks 76-55 in dual meet competition at EllensbL',rg. Davis' squad bounced back. however, to take the measure of the University of Portland and Oregon College of Education in a triangular meet and sweep past all rivals in winning the OCC and District 2 titles. The Staters boasted six conference champions: Stan Miller, 440; Tim Small, mile; Tom Lee, high jump; Loren Remy, shot put and discus; and Art Morland, pole vault. Port'land State athletes picked up six victories in the District 2 meet. Individual champs were Stan Miller, 440; Tim Small, mile and three-mile; Art Morland, pole vault; Jay Hill , 880; and the mile relay team of Jay Hill, Stan Miller, Byron Arthur and Jon Abraham. Tom Lee and Tim Small both competed in the national NAIA meet and performed well. Lee tied for fifth in, the high jump, while Small finished eighth in a field of 30 in the three-mile. The Vikings were also the small college power in cross-country in the state during the past yea,r. Portland State won the bcc title as Hill and Small tied for individual honors and walked off with the Oregon Invitational Cross-Country title.
