Coach Mike Tichy's baseball team swept to 11 victories in its final 12 starts to bring Portland State College the Oregon Collegiate Conference and District 2 NAIA championships. The Vikings captured the OCC title with an 8-1 record and earned the District 2 title by sub duing Pacific University 5-2 and 5-0. Included among PSC vict'ims were the University of Port land twice and Seattle University. PSC's final record was 15-8. After winning the District 2 crown, Tichy's squad was under consideration for the national NAIA Tournament but lost out to Sacramento State in final selections. . No less than six Vikings were named to the OCC all-star team. Included in that group were first baseman , Jim Chambers; second baseman, Phil Adolf; shortstop, Dennis Heath; outfielder, Don Lowry; and pitchers, Gordon Riese and Ted Hendry. Hendry, Adolf, Heath, and Lowry, along with catcher H ewa rd Fetz, were also named to the District 2 NAIA all-star outfit. Junior outfielder Loyd Lewis made collegiate baseball history in a 14-6 rout of the University of Portland when he smashed fou r home runs in as many trips to the plate.
