MUSIC DEPARTMENT The Choir, directed by Marjorie Albertson, presents several public concerts each year. Membership in the Portland State Musical organizations - the Choir, Band, Symphonette, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, String Quartet, and Madrigal Singers - is open to students in any division of the College. Many of the perfonning musicians are not music majors. Marjorie Albertson, Director of the Choir and Madrigal Singers, is a grad­ uate of Idaho University and came to Portland State from Lincoln High, where she had developed an exceptionally fine choir. Robert Crowley, a graduate of Reed, has done graduate work at University of California with the American composer, Roger Sessions. Crowley has been very active as a composer, one of his most recent works having been the incidental music and Overture for the PSC production of "Comedy of Errors". S . John Trudeau, who teaches Brass Instruments and Theory, came to Port­ land from Boston as first trombone of the Portland Symphony. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. Dr. Frances Berry Turrell, who teaches the Music Literature courses and is faculty adviser to Mu Phi Epsilon, is a graduate of Reed with her doctorate from University of Southern California. John H. Stehn, director of the band and orchestra, is a graduate of the University of Iowa and Grinnell College, with graduate study at Colwnbia, Eastman, and Julliard. JOMn H. SteMn, director of P.S.C.
