Portland State has distinguished itself often in the past year in the field of de­ bate. Under the able guidance of Ben Pad row and his assistants, Clay Separd and Warren Gasink, Portland State cap· tured first place in the Town Meeting held at Portland State. This is the first victory in the twelve years of its exist, ence since it was created by Dr. Frank Roberts at this school. In the Pacific Lutheran debate first places were won by Ewe Main and Dave Curry in extemporaneous, and by Ed Westerdahl in discussion. Ed also reached the finals in extemporaneous and impromptu. Pat Kelly placed in the finals in interpretive, and Tom Mack took third in extemporaneous. 158
