PORTLAND STATE LIBRARY DR. JEAN BLACK Director The new Portland State library moved from the confines of the second floor of Old Main to a spacious fout story building adjoining the Col­ lege Center. The library, now containing some 40,000 volumes, when full, will hold upwards of 130,000 copies. The building was ready January 5, the opening day of winter quarter. Floor space including health service center is 36,405 square feet. The total seating on the four floors and the basement level is 700. The first floor reference room is often the scent of intense study during finals week. 100
