"The Pirate" by S. N. Behrman wa s the first production of the 1957-58 season of the Portland State Theater. Running October 31, November 1 and 2, the play concerns a traveling magician who fall s in love with the pirate's wife and poses as a pirate himself. Setting for the play is Santo Domingo about 1830. Under the direction of Dr. Charles Gaupp, the musical play starred Don Finlay , Gary Rob­ inson, Dana Roecker and Beverly Bowman. During the third act, there was a play within a play with fire-eaters, magi cians, and fea ts of strength.
