The student may get the first two years toward a three-year certificate or by taking some work at the Portland Extension Center, he may receive the first three years to­ ward a four-year degree. Portland State's engineering department with divisions in general, civil, indus­ trial, and mechanical engineering, gives the student the technical background and the practical experience necessary to continue in this field .
