MR. ARBA ACER, head basketball and baseball coach, _ ~ .joined the staff at P. ~. C. in the fall of 1948. Since coming to Portland State, Mr. Ager has produced out· standing teams in both sports. His fame is most widely known in the field of basket ball. With his ability for stressing fundamentals and team play, he has consistently produced winning teams. Since the beginning of the Oregon Collegiate Conference, his teams have walked off with trophies, and they have never placed lower than third in the Northwest Regional Junior College playoffs. In his last three years, with 57 wins against 27 losses, his re cord speaks for itself. SHARKEY NELSON came to P.S.c. ·in the fall of 1952 as an instructor in the P. E. department and assistant coach. Mr. Nelson took his undergraduate work at a College of Education in Oklahoma and his masters at Okla homa University where he learned the ball control type of basketball which he employs, from Hank Iba who is famous for his teams. Before coming to Oregon Mr. Nelson taught for seven years in Oklahoma. Since his arrival he was with Washington High for one year and then as head coach in basketball at Benson High for the last four years. At present he teaches physical and health education IIn.-'l i" """i"t:mt football and basketball coach. DR. HOWARD WESCOTT joined the P.E. staff in the fall of 1952 as an instructor in men's P. E., in which he stressed the coordination and development of the body, for the ultimate growth of the student. Dr. Wescott received his undergraduate work at Reed College and his masters and doctorate at Columbia University. He has been affiliated with the P. E. departments at Columbia University, Rice Institute, University of Wyoming and as director of athletics at Reed College before coming to P. S. C. While in college Dr. Wescott lettered in five sports but his main interest was in wrestling in which he was state champion in his weight and missed the 1936 Olympics by one bout.
