"Verily J Do" Winter quarter saw Vanport's first musical play, "Verily I Do" by George Sarage and Gladys Charles, produced at the stage end of the theater room. This comedy about the drafting of the best fighter from a Kentucky mountain community got many laughs from the audience. The suspense of whether Verily would have to marry one of the mountain boys and whether Granny would die before she could solve the riddle added to the fun and excitement of the performances. Nine of the cast of thirteen were appearing in their first play. Verily (Joanne Rosendaal ) gets acquainted (George Jeffery) by shaving him. Idy, the "widdie woman" (Johnnie Wyatt), entertains the Sergeant (Bob Mayer ), and the preacher (Gary McCutcheon) , who is holding the wedding supper. Granny Fearsome arrives "to die."
