INTRA MURAL SPORTS PROGRAM The Intramural sports program wa s started in the fall of 1949, under the au spices of the athletic department . Mr. Jim Vitti, Instructor in Physical Education from the University of Oregon. or­ ganized the first competition in such sports as Touch Football, Ba sketball. Softball, Handball, and Volleyball. All students ar3 eligible for competition in the se sports with the exception of those who are playirig for the varsity in the respective seasonal competit ion . This program ha s grown from it's infancy wi t h only a few groups taking an active part to the point where practica ll y all male organizations are participating in at least one pha se of the variou s types of competition. Many thanks should go to Mr. Vitti , who ha s worked hard and given freely of his own time to further the intramura l program. An intramural board is appointed annually to work out problems that come up, as well as to act as a court in settling protests.
