SIGNA DELTA ONEGA Sigma Delta Omega, a socia l fraternity organized to further brother­ hood and to be of service to the school, received its charter as a Vanport fraternal organization during the winter term of 1949. At thi s time the fra­ ternity named fifteen charter members. Sigma Delta Omega wa s well represented in student ~ernment, plac­ ing two members, Bob Casteel and Jerry Edwards on the student council thi s past year. Several members of the fratern ity held posit ions on the school publica­ tion , the Vanguard and the Viking . Burt Benson wa s edito r of the Vanguard and literary edito r of the Viking . Chuck Paulson wa s on the feature staff and wa s circulation manager of t he Vanguard fall term and ed itor spring term. Act ive in the Homecoming festivit ies Sigs, under the leadership of Bob Ruan, orig inated and managed the noise parade. Sigs were active in in­ tramural sports, entering a football team and a "free throwing" team. Several members were named to the intramural all-star, fir st and second place football team. B.
