All credit for sports and athletic news falls on the shoulders of Rod­ ger Eddy, sports editor, Fall, Winter and Spring terms. "Eddy's Etch­ ings" was Rodg's brainchild in which he thoroughly analyzed the . athletic financial situation, the Physi­ cal Education department and all phases of Vanport sporting news. Bernice Johnson, co-editor of the :'Viking," was the originator of all editorial cartoons appearing in the Fall term "Vanguard." Taking over Bernice's position of staff artist, Win­ ter term, Stan Williamson was the creator of the comic strip which ap­ peared weekly. , Pat Maney controlled the "Van­ guard's" purse strings Fall term and Spring term. He organized a busi­ ness staff and helped to make the paper practically self supporting. Succeeding Pat as Business man­ ager, Jim Miller was in charge of finances and expenditures, Winter term. Shirley Ernst and Gordon Glanz assisted the business depart­ ment. The combined feature staff of both terms was composed of Rosemary Theirman, Nancy Kilgas, Ben Hordes, Shirley Pease and Elean0r Overbye . Roger Troen, George Kirkham and Bob Gaittens served on the Fall and Winter term news staff. Tane O 'Connor fulfilled the duties of staff secretary.
