Vanport again reached the .500 mark by vir­ tue of a 21-to-16 victory over the Clark College Penguins at Vancouver high's field Friday afternoon, November 18. Most of the Vikings' play was far below their usual standard, but they took advantage of the breaks, and came through in the clutches to edge out a surpris­ ingly tough Clark outfit. The Penguins grabbed a quick 7-to-0 lead, but Gene Rider nailed a Clark scatback in his end zone for a safety. Clark kicked off and Jerry Garrett smashed straight down the field for a quick TD and an 8-to-7 lead. In the next quarter Coleman scored, but in the third per­ iod Gene Miner's kick was blocked, and bounced out of the end zone' for a safety. A TD by Miner and Webb's conversion put Vanport ahead 21-to-9. Clark made a 75-yard drive good for seven points before the game ended. Final score 21-to-16.
