Joseph V. Holland, athletic director, is on leave of absence to complete work on his Doctor of Education degree at University of Oregon. Holland came to Vanport in the Fall of 1946 and coached all teams, until Ager was added to the stoff in 1948. He is now head football coach. Ager is coaching the basketball team during Holland's absence. Holland played college and professional football. He attended Willamette University. He was teaching at Vanport grammar school before his appQintment to the college PE department. Area L. Ager has been track and bosketball coach and assistant football coach for Vanport since he came here in Fall of 1948 from Washington high school. "Arb" starred in all three kinds of ball at Franklin high before he entered Southern Oregon Normal. He was principal of Jackson· ville grammar school, and high and junior high coach there before playing baseball and basketball at University of Oregon. Ager taught at Portland grammar schools till fall of 1942 when he took over the basketball reins at Washington. Next was a spell in the USN where he still coached bucketball. He returned to Wash· ington after discharge, and remained there until Vanport added him to their staff. He is coaching the baseball team this spring. Jim Vitti came to Vanport in the Fall of 1949, and this year was an assistant football coach; coach of the IV basketball and JV foot · ball teams and coach of the wrestling and track teams. He also aided Ager in establishing an intramural program at Vanport. Jim graduated from high school in Darien, Connecticut in 1939. He attended University of Oregon a year, before joining the army combat engineers in 1942. After 45 months in service. 39 of them overseas, Jim returned to Oregon and graduated in 1948. He reo ceived his Master's degree in 1949. . Vitti lives in the Vanport "Barracks" where he acts "as "house· mother."
