Responsibilities ranging from taking care of the school building and grounds to literally " keeping the school in place," have been successfully performed. by the Vanport maintenance crew. Composed entirely of students, with the exception of Les Eggleston, building and maintenance superintendent. the crew not only works for financial purposes but chiefly to preserve their record of memorable service to the school. The positions are given to deserving students who have a high scholastic average . Handling the entire school transportation facilities is another responsibility of "Les and his boys" School buildings are divided into sections and each member of the crew is responsible for his respective area. The experience of students in dilferent trades including electricity, painting and mechanics resulted in .the need for a small number of outside calls for various school: repairs and jobs. During the snowstorm of 1949-'50 the maintenance crew was occupied with additional duties to perform, including shoveling snow off the roofs and keeping the drains clear. Chosen by the student body and the faculty as "just the man I wanted to see," Les Eggleston finds his position as building and maintenance superintendent one which con stantly keeps him "on the go." Les, who was formerly in charge of maintenance at Willamette Iron and SteeL has been at Vanport since September, 1946. Cooperation from the students and the faculty played an important port in assisting Les and his staff of approximately 30 workers to discharge their duties. 100
