people who came to pSC This year, more than ever before, outstanding personali­ ties brought their ideas and talents to Portland State. The college's role as a point of focus for community life was broadened and intensified by their contributions. On November 8, the Old Main auditorium was filled to over­ flowing with students who heard the noted integration leader, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., assert: "If democracy is to live, segregation must die." The King convocation, sponsored by the Urban League, concluded Portland State's two week commemora­ tion of the centennial of the Civil War. The Little Concert Series offered the artistry of pianist Leon Fleisher, the first Ameri­ can to win the Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Music Competi­ tion. This powerful talent was followed later in the series by Maureen Forrester, contralto, and Leonard Rose, cellist.
