RAPS-Sheet-2020-February

3 The RAPS Sheet February 2020 RAPS Group Reports Book Group IN JANUARY WE MET at Leif and Marge Terdal’s home and discussed Lynne Olson’s Citizens of London: The Americans Who Stood with England in its Darkest, Finest Hour. A detailed history, the book introduces many individuals that we did not know much about. It explores the origins of an Anglo-American alliance and the tensions that it endured. With its focus on London, it presents material new to many of us. In February we have decided to discuss The Overstory by Richard Powers. A Pulitzer Prize winner, it has won wide acclaim, and we are eager to read and talk about it. We will meet at the home of Felicia Wirtz, 16433 Avamere Court, Portland. Contact Felicia at 503-645 0947 or feliciawritz@gmail.com to let her know whether you will be able to be there. The book group meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. New members are always welcome. —Joan Shireman Bridge Group THE RAPS BRIDGE GROUP meets in the afternoon on the first Tuesday of each month. Total distance is 6.1 miles. Almost the entire hike will be on city streets, including a stretch along busy North Basin Avenue on Swan Island. The best way to get there is on the MAX Yellow Line. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the northbound platform of the North Lombard Transit Center, which is at the intersection of North Interstate Avenue and Lombard Street. The hike will end at the Prescott and Interstate MAX station. We will eat at one of the many cafes in the area; one possibility is a cafe on Swan Island before the end of the hike. The exact lunch location will be decided by the hikers. This hike can be found on page 14 of the 2008 edition of Portland City Walks by Laura Foster.
