Light, bright, open Shattuck Hall gains new life PHOTOGRAPHY BY KELLY JAMES The remodel of Shattuck Hall has created spaces that inspire. Walls were removed, skylights added, and the building's structure exposed to provide a teaching and learning environment for architecture students. The building is also home to general classrooms and a new metal foundry and workshops for wood, metal, and model making. Although much of the original 1915 elementary school is gone, its elegant windows, central atrium, and stairwells remain. Stop by the second floor Architecture Department office before touring Shattuck at southwest Broadway and College. 10 PORTLAND STATE MAGAZINE WINTER 2009 ••
