ALUMNI NOTES COMPILED BY ROBIN BAKER 1956-1959 John Poff'56 retired to Angel's Camp, California, after a long career teaching junior high math on the Peninsula, south of San Francisco. He keeps active as a timekeeper for Stan– ford Athletics and had to leave early from the San Francisco alumni event in September, so he could get to Palo Alto in time for a game. He sends greetings to all members of che first graduating class. 1960-1969 R. William Riggs '61 retired after a 38-year legal career, with the final eight years spent as an Oregon Supreme Court justice. Riggs plans an active retirement. Brian D. Black '69 is vice president and rela– tionship manager at West Coast Bank in Portland. Jon Mitchell '69 ofAcumenrra Health, a nonprofit organiza– tion dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of health care, was elected to the PSU Foundation Board of Directors in September. 1970-1979 Marcia S. Andrews '70 is the co-owner of Silver Falls Alpacas in Silverton, where she has a herd of 10 alpacas and two llamas. Andrews breeds alpacas for sale and processes their hair into yarn and various crocheted products. She plans on opening Silver Falls Spinnery, a fiber processing mill, chis year. Charles C. Chapman '67 recently published a book of poetry, Poetry far Children of All Ages. He is almost finished with a second, larger book of adult themed poetry. He plans on including a couple of poems about Earl Shumaker Earl Shumaker '71 was named 2006 Illinois Academic Librar– ian of the Year his time at Portland Scace. Les Fahey '68 of Fahey Ven– tures, LLC, a business adviser to emerging growth companies, was elected to the PSU Founda– tion Board of Directors in July. by the Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries. Shumaker is head of the governmem publications department at Northern Illinois University, a post he has held since 1985. He is also the coordinator of the university's branch libraries system and reaches library science during the weekend at Waubonsee Community Col– lege in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Gary Taylor '71 was named 2006 Managing Broker of the Year by the Portland Metropolitan Asso– ciation of Realtors' Million Dollar Club. GaryWeeks, MS Daneal Louise (Danielle Hopkins Larson) '74, MA '81 became execu– tive assistant co Marvin Kaiser, dean of che PSU College of Liberal Am and Sciences in July. '72 became executive director of che Wash– ington Health Care Association in October. He was previously Daneal Louise Mark Neighorn '74, broker and director of the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, a post that Gov. Christine Gregoire recruited him co last year. Previously, Weeks had a long career in cop state poses in Oregon. Wash– ington Health Care, based in Olympia, Washington, is an as– sociation of 330 nursing homes and assisted living centers. Molly (Ackley) Cook '74 moved to Langley, Washington, on Whidbey Island a year ago and is teaching creative writing classes for Whidbey Island Writers Association and middle school students. Between classes, Cook enjoys working in her floral design studio, Blue Moon Flowers, serving on the local library board, and serv– ing as a member of the Island Arcs Council. "Retirement? What's chat?" Cook asks. Ann Fleming '74 displayed her sculptures at Lake Oswego's Local 14 show, an annual arc show and sale that represents rhe artwork of talented women artists from throughout che Pacific Northwest. Fleming was one of more than 30 artists invited co chis year's show. WINTER 2007 owner of Real Estate 100 Lincoln City, was named 2006 Realtor of the Year by the Lincoln County Board of Realtors. He has been in che real estate busi– ness for more than 23 years. Connie Plowman '74 is chief operating officer and vice presi– dent of Cadence Management Corporation, a project manage– ment training and consulting firm headquartered in Portland. Dan Adams '75 was recently ordained a minister of the gos– pel and is worship director at Trinity Fellowship in Portland. Richard Devlin '76, an Oregon state senator from Tualatin, is vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures budget and revenue committee.
