'78 Veer Beri (MBA) is the new vice president of internationa l market– ing fo r US Marine company. Beri. who taught international market– ing and management at PSU, joined the Washington based com– pany in 1987 . US Marine man– ufactures a number of boats in– cluding Bay liner pleasure boats. Jade Jourdan (BA) and her sister Jonte Jourdan ('88 BA) had a showi ng of their paintings thi s spring at The Melting Pot in Port– land. Also included in the show was work by their mother, Jola Jourdan . '80 Beverly Bookin (MUP) has joined Laventhol & Horwath. a Portland accounting and financial planning firm , as manager in management adv isory services. Bookin handles strategic and land-use planning fo r clients in the hea lthcare , retire– ment housi ng and real estate in– dustries . '81 Joa n Buell (MAJ won thi s year's Beth Wessinger Award as the indi– vidual who has contributed most to hospice care in Oregon. Buell is founder and executive director of Hospice House. an inpatient hospice . Diana D. Burns (BS) has been ap– pointed to the new post of vice president-finance and business de– velopment for the Assoc iati on for Portland Progress . Burns is with Touche Ross & Co. in Portland . Lisa Davidson (BS) has been named vice president at First In– terstate Bank of Oregon . Susanne Thoroughman (BA) is the director of the eastside office of the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Thoroughman, who received her MA in psyc hology at Wheaton College in 1985. began volunteer– ing at the center in 1986 and joined the staff a year later. The Crisis Pregnancy Center is a non– profit agency providing counsel– ing and support services to pregnant women . Jeanette Zurawski , M .D. (BS), is the medical director of rehabili– tation serv ices at North Mi sis– sippi Medical Center's Rehabilita– tion In stitute in Tupelo, Mi ss. Zurawski graduated from Oregon Hea lth Sciences University in 1985. finished her residency in June 1989 . and assumed director– ship of the institution in July 1989 . '82 Richard H. Carson Richard H. Carson (BS ) was the recipient of a " Professional Ac hievement Award'" given at the Oregon Chapter of the American Pl anning Association's 1990 con– ference. Carson, who is director for the Metropolitan Service Dis– trict's Planning and Develop– ment Department, was honored for deve lopment of the Regional So lid Waste Managemen t Plan. The plan emphasizes recycling. '83 Rita Amadoro (BA ) is assistant vice president in the in vestment division for U.S. Bank in Port– land. Amadoro began wi th the bank in 1985 as sec urities special– ist. A Lake Oswego resident , Amadoro is a volunteer with the Northwest Pilot Project and teaches at the Timberline Ski School. Mary Christine Bailey, M.D. (BS ), is beginning a fe llowship in Pediatric Cardi ology this summer at The Children's Hospital, Har– vard School of Med ici ne in Bos– ton, Mass. Bailey, a grad uate of the PS U Honors Program , re– ce ived her M.D. cum laude from Oregon Hea lth Sciences Uni ver– si ty, and did her residency at Dornbecher's Children's Hospi tal in Portland. Marc S. Gonzales (BA ) has been named deputy director of fiscal management for C lackamas County. A Portland native and resi– dent , Gonzales has worked for the cou nty's financial administrati on department since November 1984. Gonzales wi ll ass ist the county tre– asurer in overseeing a budget of 127 million dollars , all financial activities and payroll for more than I. 300 county employees. Duncan Jambor (BS ) is li vi ng in Sacramento, Calif., and working for the California Student Aid Commission as an accounta~t. He happily reports that he has paid off hi s PSU student loan s' Maria Jibaja-Rusth (BA) has comp leted her doctorate in educa– tion at the University of Houston and is now a research associate at Bay lor College of Medicine in Houston. Her area of concen tra– tion was sports psyc hology, and during her cou rse-work she re– ceived the outstandi ng graduate student award for academi c exce l– lence. Maria's husband Doug Rusth , who was a faculty member in the PSU Accounting Depart– ment, will finish hi s Ph .D. in Ac– coun ting thi s summer at the Uni – versity of Houston. '84 Van R. Adkison (BS) wri tes that he is a police officer for the ci ty of Seattle . Hi s job includes patrol– ling . training new officers. and performing spec ialty assignments such as narcotics . William H . Gray William H. Gray (Ph .D. ) has been selected to participate in the annual Institute for Educational Management at Harvard Univer– sity. Gray. who received hi s docto– rate in Urban Studies , is director of the Spokane campus of Washington State University. Gray has been a member of the WSU faculty since 1972 and was ap– pointed director ofWSU-Spokane in 1987 . Carol A. Miille (BA) is a clini cal supervisor and family therapist for the Morri son Center Breakthrough Program in southeast Portland. The Breakthrough Program is part of the Morrison Center fo r Youth and Family Services. Cheryl Nickerson Cheryl Nickerson (BS ) has been promoted to vice president of per– sonnel for Security Pac ific Bank Oregon in Portland. Nickerson is now responsible for Affirmative Action policies, employee loans, and the bank 's employee relations and employment programs. She has been with Securi ty Pacific since 1988. PSU 27
