Tom Moyer (BS) continues to operate the Portland-based Luxut)' Theatres chain, the 11th-largest na– tionwide with more than 300 screens in six states. Moyer's chain tentatively had been sold in Apri l to the nation's largest movie theater chain, United Artists Theater Circu it, but UA's board of' directors later decided to call off the deal. Moyer now expects to continue with his three-year expan– sion program to build new theaters in Anchorage, Alaska as well as in Seattle and Bellevue, Wash. R ichardson George E. Richardson, Jr. (BS) has been named director of state and local government relations for Northwest Natural Gas Co. He is the firm's f0t·mer director of cor– porate budgets and planning. Richardson also is a current member of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education. '76 M ela ni e Billings-Yun (BS) authored the article, "Viet Con" which appeared in the May 2 edi– tion of New Republic magazine. She also has written a book, Decisions Against IMir, about the Eisenhower administration's Southeast Asia policy, which is scheduled to be published by Columbia Universi– ty Press. For the past fi ve years, he served as principal at La Center High School in La Center, Wash. J on S. Reed (MBA) has been named area general manager for Tektronix Germany. He is the former vice president and general manager of the Information Display Group at the Tektronix Wilsonville, Ore., complex. Stephen M. Rinella (BS) has joined the staff of Smith, Monroe & Gray Engineers in Beaverton, Ore. Bob Simpson (BS) has been pro– moted to vice president and com– mercial loan officer at Key Bank of Oregon's East Portland Com– mercial Loan Center. He has also served on the Oregon Arthritis Foundation board of directors and coaches you th sports in Lake Oswego, Ore. '77 Nicholas H . Garrow (BS) has been promoted to vice president at the insurance firm of Rollins Bur– dick Hunter of Oregon, Portland . J an E. Monroe (BS), who is stu– dying for a master's degree in public administration at PSU, has received research funds from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Hi research topic concerns how best to shift general aviation traffic from a metropolitan area's principal airport to so-called " reliever" airports. J on Newton (BA) is currently en– joying musical success on several fronts: as an avant-garde musician, as a performer, and now as a mainstream business owner who is being called Portland's current king of commercial jingles. The life and times of this eclectic musi– cian were chronicled in a May 8 feature article in Th£ Oregonian newspaper. Bill Probstfield (BS) has been re– elected Washington County She– riff. He was running unopposed. Sylvia Bergey Reynolds (MST), a teacher in Nome, Alaska, has been selected as the Northwest Secondary School Physical Educa– tion Teacher of the Year by the Na– tional Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). This marks the second consecutive year that a PSU Health and Physical Education alum has won this honor. Sharon Flood ('78 BS) was selected in 1987. Rice Judith L. Rice (MBA) has been named vice pres id ent a nd manager for human resou rces plann ing and development at US National Bank of Oregon. She will oversee long-range manpowe r planning needs for the bank. Mike Richardson (BS), publisher of Portland-based Dark Horse Com– ics, recently landed the rights to create a regular comic series bas– ed on 20th Century Fox's 1986 box office hit, "Aliens." His firm reportedly has become one of the top six comic book companies in the US during its brief, three-year existence. Gunter E. Richter (BS) has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer of Freedom Federal Savings and Loan Association in Corvallis, Ore. '78 J ay Clemens (BS), president of Turtledove Clemens, Inc. (TCI), r e ports his Portland-based advertising and public relations firm won "Best of '87'' honors along with two of the world 's la rgest ad agencies. "Advertising Age" magazine singl– ed out a TV public service an– nouncement on AIDS education created by TCI from some 1,750 competing entries. Thomas Olsen (BS) is the new administrator at Pacific Com– munities Hospital in Newport, Ore. He is the former director of finance and acting administrator at North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City, Ore. m 25 '79 J oseph E. Opsahl (BS) has join– ed the Portland office of Smith Barney Harris Upham & Co Inc. as second vice president of the sales division. Prior to joining Smith Barney, Mr. Opsahl was assistant vice president with Kid– der Peabody in Portland. William A. " Bill" Thomas (MPA) is the new administrator of the Oregon C hildren's Services Division (CSD), which has a $120-million annual budget and 1,900 employees. He has served as the administrator of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) since 1980, and for ten years prior to that he was a caseworker and social service supervisor for the CSD. '80 Ruth H orley (BA) has become one of 58 " Faith and Fitness" aerobics leaders in the onhwest. The instructors combine religious faith with love of fitness during workouts in church fac il ities located in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Ms. Harley's group meets in Forest Grove, Ore. Diane Linn (BS) has been named vice president for program– ming and government affairs at Rogers Cable systems, Portland. She will serve as the firm's represe nta tive to th e cab le regulatory agencies for Portland , East Multnomah County, Gre– sham, Fairview, Troutdale, Wood VilJage and the unincorporated areas of East Cou nty. Jeff Parker (BA) was named one of six leading sales agents for 1987 by Portland's The Realty Group, Inc. Maryalice Russell (BS, '82 MS, '84 MST) is the new principal at Metzger Elementary School in the Tigard, Ore., School District. She is the former principal of East Orient School near Gresham, Ore. '81 Margo M . Cheek ('81 BS) has been named vice president in the comptrollers department at the corporate banking center of First Interstate Bank of Oregon.
