But like any art, digital still requires understanding the tra– ditional processes of line, color, and subject matter while commu– nicating effectively to the audience. The real strength of the digital medium, according to New Mexico writer, editor, and longtime digital artist J.D. Jarvis, "lies in synthesis-in bringing together existing forms in such innovative ways as to yield completely new ones." Students are able to use all the "soft– ware tools and all the traditional processes together to make something that has not yet been imag– ined," says Jarvis.
