A state-of-the-art com– puter lab allows them to explore digital tools as they weave together images and shapes, apply and adjust color, overlay type, and in some instances, put it to video and add sound. "Digital is a new medium with its own vocabulary, work flow, and look," says Daniel Pirofsky, assistant professor of art and a digital artist. "But in some sense, the digi– tal medium emulates and simulates all other media." Yasha Poursafar's piece looks like a softly flowing oil painting, while Monica Bonner's takes the form of a photo– graphic montage. A majority of the work displayed here is, in fact, rooted in photo– graphic exploration. The students have scanned photographic images and finessed SPRING 2002 PSU MAGAZINE 9
