During a special election in April, Bernard was elected mayor of the city of Milwaukie, replacing Carolyn Tomei '71 , MSW '73 who serves as state representative for District 25. Sarah Ferguson writes that fol– lowing graduation she served for three years in the U. . Marine Corps, retiring in 1985 at the rank of captain. Fergu on earned an MBA degree from Fordham University in 1994 and today is managing director and chief sales officer for The Vantra Group in Waverly, New York. Roger Daniels MPA was named 2001 citizen of the year by the Camas/Washougal Chamber of Com– merce. April Brookins Duvic MST and Vanessa Jump Nelson have formed Duelin' Sopranos, a duo playing off the tereotype that sopranos are divas and prima donnas. They are in the process of recording their first compact disc. Duvic is on staff at C lark a llege in Vancouver, Wash– ington, where she teache voice, music education and directs a choir and the school's musical productions. Nelson maintains a private voice tudio near Westview High chool and is director of music at Portland's St. Gabriel's Episco– pal Church. '87 Robert Garrity MST '90 was chosen as the 2001 Adult Edu– cator of the Year at Ea t Tennes ee State University (ETSU) . Garrity, with the divi– sion of developmental tudies at ETSU, was selected as part of the Tennessee First Congres– sional District's observance of Lifelong Learning Week. Trout is a consultant at CIRCA The Development Company. She lives in Portland. Susan Marmolejo Kipp is a visual arts teacher at Beach School in Portland . Kipp was one of 30 national winners (representing 28 states) of the Robert Rauschenberg Founda– tion awards to art teachers who teach high-risk and learning disabled students. The award was presented at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., on May 18. '90 Andrew "Andy" Baker MS '96 is an equipment engineer at Wacker Siltronic. Baker lives in Portland . Terri (Hoff) Comment MS writes, "I am temporarily retired after 13 years of teaching and have embarked on my greatest adventure yet . . . being a mommy!" Jensen McKenzie was born in December. Durwood "Frank" Douglas MPA '96 i div i ion chief and emergency med ical services coordinator with the Newberg Fire Department. Douglas received Newberg Fire Depart– ment's highest award, a Golden Eagle, which is awarded annu– ally based on work performance.
